Simulation Model for Wire Harness Design in the Car Production Line Optimization Using the SimPy Library

The automotive industry is one of the most important economic sectors in world. At beginning, vehicles only had mechanical components, so use an wire harness was not indispensable. Cars today are equipped with electronic components that, addition to basic operations moving, turning, and stopping, perform more functions every day. Wiring harnesses indispensable for controlling these components. Automotive wiring have hundreds variants, principally manufactured customized designs, measured specifically each car. A large number production variants increase labor hours, as well rework, inventory, manufacturing costs. Even when technologies exist assist design lines, today, lines mainly based on experience from previous cases. This paper aims show how a discrete event simulation permits support decision making proper assembly identifying possible unbalances overloaded processes. In our work, we implement model this using SimPy Python library. Finally, case study sector presented, week simulated, current plant configuration improvement scenarios analyzed.
